Yom Kippur is the most solemn and important of the Jewish holidays. It is celebrated each year on the tenth day of the seventh month in the Hebrew calendar. In 2008, this celebration will take place on October, 8.
The name "Yom Kippur" means "Day of Atonement" and that pretty much explains what the holiday is. On this day Jews all over the world do not eat or drink for 25 hours. All adults are required to fast. Boys and girls before their Bar or Bat Mitzvahs are not required to fast. People that are too ill to fast are also not required to fast.
