National Tourism Week is celebrated by the industry and communities across the nation to help promote travel to and within the United States. National Tourism Week is sponsored by the Travel Industry Association and it goals are to increase awareness of the travel and tourism industry's economic, social, and cultural contributions to the United States.
National Tourism Week was established in 1983. The annual event was organized by industry leaders from the major travel and tourism trade associations. By January 1986 industry leaders had formed a permanent full-time office at Travel Industry Association to sponsor the event and expand tourism awareness into year-round programs.
The theme for this 25th Annual National Tourism Week observed on May 10-18, 2008 is: "Discover Great American Traditions".
