National Sun Safety Week is organized every year on the first week of June by the Sun Safety Alliance. This celebration has been observed since 2004.
The national observance of Sun Safety Week was recognized in a 2005 congressional action by both the House of Representatives, sponsored by Michael Bilirakis and Anna Eshoo, and in the Senate by John McCain and John Sununu.
This nationwide event aims to provide different types of informational kits, skin screening to beachgoers and free sun safety items.
