National Safe Boating Week is celebrated this year on May 17 – 23 and is the official beginning of The North American Safe Boating Campaign.
The central focus of the North American Safe Boating Campaign is life jacket wear, and the simple and memorable campaign theme is “Wear It!” Since most recreational boating fatalities result from drowning, and since over 90 percent of those who drown were not wearing a life jacket, life jacket wear is considered the single most important behavior change that could prevent deaths on the water.
