National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is celebrated each year one week before Thanksgiving. This week long event is co-sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger & Homelessness and is a nationwide effort to bring greater awareness to this severe problem.
Homelessness is the condition of people who lack housing, but this term may also include those who have as a primary nighttime residence a homeless shelter. Usually they provide food, shelter and clothing and may be organised and run by community organisations or by government departments.
