National Hospital Week is observed on May 11- 17, 2008. This health care event is aimed to build enthusiasm and pride in the giving nature of care of health care workers.
On May 12, 1921, America celebrated its first National Hospital Day when a magazine editor suggested that more information about hospitals might alleviate public fears about the "shrouded" institutions of the day. Held on Florence Nightingale's birthday, it provided a window of opportunity for hospitals to capture the trust of their communities. The event spread across the country and was expanded to National Hospital Week in 1953.
Today, through promotion and participation, National Hospital Week has grown into the nation's largest health care event.
