Every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day, National Grandparents Day is observed to honor grandparents and their dedication and love to our children.
In 1970 Mrs. Marian McQuade began a campaign to set aside a day for grandparents. In 1978 the United States Congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. The proclamation was signed by President Jimmy Carter.
National Grandparents Day is a great opportunity for grandparents and their grandchildren to share special time together, to develop or renew relationships and to identify or rediscover needs.
