The first week of December is National Aplastic Anemia Awareness Week. This observance is organized by the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation.
This event focuses on bringing attention to Bone Marrow Diseases. Aplastic Anemia occurs when the bone marrow stops making enough blood-forming stem cells. The symptoms of this disease include increased bleeding, bruising, and susceptibility to infections, shortness of breath, fatigue, decreased alertness, dizziness and lingering illness.
The Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation aims to fight this disease by research and patient support.
