Gay and Lesbian Pride Month is observed each year in June.
The origins of Gay and Lesbian Pride Month can be traced back to 1969, in New York City. During that time, raids on gay establishments were common and conducted regularly with little or no resistance. Gay patrons were physically forced out of gathering places, sometimes beaten, and often arrested with no real cause.
On this month we honor the gay and lesbian americans that have had an important contribution to our Nation. This month is to recognize the joys and sorrows that the gay and lesbian movement has witnessed and to encourage everyone in creating a society more inclusive and accepting of gays and lesbians.
